Final touches on the garden

Today, I installed some black 2″ polyfence on top of the field fence, and also formed a groundhog-befuddling flange along the bottom. All 20 yards of compost has been distributed, which was a considerable chore, considering the delivery driver missed my intended spot by about 25 yards and considerably downhill.

I’ve got both gates operational, and all the raised beds filled and planted. Corn and potatoes go in tomorrow. I have also planed several perennial beds out front for the deer to mow.

I’m beat. I have only the electric fence to install, which will be a 2-tiered fence to keep deer and bear away. Over time, I can even out the soil between the beds, but there’s no rush on that. I can weed wack until it’s smooth enough for the reel-mower.

My goal was to get the garden in good enough shape to get a full season out of it. It was a big push, but I did it. Last frost was just a day ago, so I didn’t miss a single growing day. I harvested asparagus yesterday and sampled some strawberries today. Mmmmmm.
