The Western week has two types of days. Weekday, and weekend days. The weekdays have subtle flavors depending upon their proximity to the coming weekend, but have similar expectations. In my business, which does mail order, Mondays are characterized by a disproportionate amount of orders. That extra push is rewarded by a more manageable load the remainder of the days. I don’t go in to work but rarely now, so I no longer feel that pattern, and the weeks have no pulse.
In an earlier post, I discussed the possibility of implementing a weekly routine, and I’ve rolled out a prototype week.
The difference in the days will be manifest specifically in the morning hours, 9-11, where maintenance tasks, readings, and possibly a special project can be undertaken that relate to that day’s focus.
The longer afternoon work block and evening reading at compline can also relate to the focus when desirable.
These are not intended as strictly scheduled activities, more to keep a sense of pulse as days roll into weeks and months, and years.
- SUNDAY – the focus is on solitude, and meditations.
- MONDAY- tending routine needs and maintenance
- TUESDAY- Monthly cycle of special foci*
- WEDNESDAY- study and readings of science
- THURSDAY- towards the practice of art
- FRIDAY- Music practice and appreciation
- SATURDAY- Plants and Animals
*Tuesday’s monthly days rotate among these four topics, or divert to something special. Biology, Humanity, Routine, Special Project.
So far, it’s been a good plan, affording me a reason to go a little more in depth about things that I hope to explore more, it’s given me context to reflect on past days and look forward to new days.
This week was disrupted as a couple people at work got COVID (It appears they will do well and didn’t spread it at work), and we had a snowstorm that demanded some effort to clear up, but today I can get back to the routine.
