Errand Day

I cluster my errands as much as I can so that larger swaths of solitary time are maximized. Today, Mo went to the vet for his persistent foot infection, I stopped at Tractor Supply for a bird feeder set up for the good people at work and some hardware. I went to the local sawmill to pick up some rough sawn cherry to mill down for an easel so I can start painting again, I picked up a load of my books from the storage unit. I met with my Operations Manager about setting up a child-friendly area for the two kids of employees whose young lives that have been disrupted by the pandemic.

And that was enough. I’m spent. I should be home for the next several days, uninterrupted.

It did occur to me that I was making choices that were consistent with my Rule, although out and about. Animals were cared for, new bird feeders were set in place at work and home. Young people were respected and provided for, local business was supported. I even passed up the gummi bears at the checkout…

The most exciting thing through the day was unearthing my field guides from the boxes that had been in storage while I built my house. when I packed, I donated many of my books, keeping only ones that I truly loved. It was a difficult process to go through 4 years ago, but opening these boxes and seeing book after book, each one a familiar friend, was a joy.
