Ahhh. Feels wonderful. Longer days. Temperatures hitting T-shirt numbers. Horus and Odie (two of my dogs) accompanied me for walk in the woods. My GPS reported about three miles. Crystal blue skies and clear as a bell sunshine. I love these days before the leaves emerge, when the sun can shine deep into the warming forest, there’s not much snow, and the birds are all singing.
I spent much of the remainder of the day with eyes peeled for wildlife to note on the wildlife inventory page. My buddy, Captain came by and we chatted a spell. He’s been under the weather. He’s half vaccinated and I am fully, so we opted to doff the masks, and it was a great taste of normalcy.
I dug a long, deep hole for the flagpole at last. I was waiting for the snow to melt and the ground to dry up enough. Then secured the aluminum sleeve that holds the pole with some quickset. Hopefully it will set before it freezes.

Then… Odin and Lord Byron escaped. I couldn’t find them while driving around. Odie is afraid of cars, which didn’t help. I turned around and went back home as the sun was setting. Odie was waiting at the door for me, but he left Byron behind somewhere. I was about to go calling for him in the dark and my phone rang. It was Captain: apparently Byron had made his way over to his place.
So we’re all home by the fire now. I made a decadent onion and grassfed beef White Castle style burger on undeserving corn tortillas, since I can’t have gluten. It was greasy and heavenly and filling. The dogs are all curled up and offering alternate snores. Might be an early bedtime.
Happy Spring!
